I free fed my dogs all their lives until the oldest one became diabetic and we needed to regulate her food so we changed all the dogs to mealtimes. We split the daily amount into two meals and feed morning and evening. At first they left a lot because they thought they could get it later but soon fell into the pattern of regular meals.
