Jaeger is 6 months old and is smack in the middle of a fur change right now. When his face fur started growing out, I trimmed the black off his chin and mouth (it made him look like it was wet/dirty constantly, because it was only on the ends) and I trim the hair on his nose so he can see and his paws so I can get to the nails, but other than that, he has never been groomed.
I always here how shave happy groomers are and I don't like that look.
In addition, he's half doxie, and though he's got mostly yorkie temperament and coat, I don't think his fur is quite as long as most yorkies are at 6 months old.
I feel like the best way to get the coat to transition healthily is to comb regularly. I comb Jaeger with a conditioning spray every day and when I'm done he's got a silver dollar sized hair ball from all the loose puppy fur that i combed out. |
