Chronic Diarrhea - Texas A & M I just received my Jan/Feb Bark Magazine and I was reading about Texas A & M Vet school. They have the largest research group in vet gastroenterology in the world...WOW..further into the article they wrote: The lab offers exocrine pancreatic function testing to diagnose exocrine pancratic insufficiency (EPI) and pancreatitis. Animal with EPI cannot digest their food because the pancreas does not fuction properly: the disease is treated with pancreatic enzymes. Pancreatitis is an often deadly disease, especially in pets who remain undiagnosed.
A test for protein-losing enteropathy is also utilized to detect loss of protein in the GI tract. The disease is common many breeds, especially the Yorkshire Terrier, Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier and Norweigian Lundehund.
Another frequently requested test determines serum cobalamin deficiency, also know as vitamin B-12 deficiency. The condition is common and easily treated. "It is very important to have this test if a dog or cat suffers from chronic Diarrhea".
You might want to pick up Bark and read under Vet Education.
