I've spoken to a several different owners and employees at small pet food stores in my area and a couple of them think it's not necessary to stick with a puppy formula and one guy I spoke with said it was kind of a marketing gimmick. With that being said, puppies still need a higher fat and protein content since they're growing so I'd look for a formula that has similar percentages of components like protein and fat. Acana's grain-free line has similar values to the puppy formula in terms of those two factors which is what I looked at for Toki. I went ahead and switched her to an all life stages grain-free formula from Fromm when she was 8 months and she's been doing well on it! |
