Should we change food? When we brought Jaeger home at 10 weeks, he had a full coat, but was scratching constantly. We switched him over to Authority Lamb and Rice and he seemed better after that.
Within the last month or two, I've noticed the scratching again (though not as bad.) He also licks his legs (the furry part, and also the insides of his back thighs.) About a month ago, his belly turned kind of scaly grey and pinky sized dried skin pieces fell peeled off. He also has fairly severe red tear stains/eye boogers.
His fur is also coming out, but no bald patches. He looks super scruffy right now, but I THINK the fur loss is just that he is getting losing his puppy coat.
He's 6 months old, half yorkie/half daschund.
I will preface all replies by saying that he is NOT miserable or in any other distress besides the mild/moderate itching. We DO have a vet appointment tomorrow (it's a military post vet so the waiting list is a bit long-they advised if his situation turned acute, to call back and they'd suggest an off-post vet, but it's more chronic than acute.)
I was hesitant to change his food at first because of all the recalls. We will definitely be weighing the opinion of the vet, but does anyone have any suggestions? If we do have to switch food, any suggestions on a reasonably priced food?
Thanks for your help. |
