I am one of those that don't follow the "keep indoors until shots are done" rule with pups. I can't even imagine leaving a dog inside until 16+ weeks. Jackson had already experienced sooo much. I would avoid pet stores and dog parks and things of the nature, and know if any parvo or such was common in your area, and just have common sense about it. But I wouldn't be overly concerned with keeping him strictly indoors. Though I'm not sure how it works for a dog that is a bit older (10 months) vs. a 8-16 week old puppy.
