He refused his food today until about noon, when he ate some of his Royal Canin G-I soaked in water. I used 3 tablespoons of kibble, added 1/4 cup water & he ate about 1/3 of that. Vet instructions are to give him his nausea medication if he refuses food so I did give that this morning, 2 hours before he ate some. I left his food down when I went to PT & got the car inspected, came back & he hadn't touched it, but almost immediately ate most of what was left in the bowl while I was showering & changing clothes. Thank the Lord! That's still not much actual food but at least he ate most of the 3 tablespoons of kibble. Will try an evening meal later tonight.
Each time he's checked out by the vet they palpate, check ROM of his neck, back, (as well as all major joints) since IVDD has been a differential dx. since his 5-23-12 date of onset sx. & he never reacts. Neuro's always normal throughout. His tummy feels full, firm a good deal of the time to me, even when it's not, though it can get quite soft & slack at times. Vet thinks that his tummy adjusting to all the changes in his food & neither vet is that impressed by it when they see him.
No reverse sneezing since he started on the Pepcid, which I've yet to give him today - waiting until tonight so he won't have both the nausea meds & Pepcid going in about the same time - maybe conspiring to make him extra sleepy.
One of the side effects of Pepcid, though in only about 10% of cases, is loss of appetite & lethargy/tiredness. Hoping that is what is going on here. Vet said just keep observing him, doing what I'm doing & if no changes, we'll leave off Pepcid a while to see if he won't spring back before doing more in depth testing. His toileting still totally normal & no more vomiting, though this morning he did straighten out his neck, head down & licking his lips a few times, acted once or twice as if he was about to retch but didn't. His ears were low to the side, tail down. Even though he's no longer acting like that, he's been asleep since about an hour after I got back home. He's sure not his usual Tibbe self that toots around the house like a tornado until weekend before last - that is when he seemed to turn some corner for the worse after eating all that food & started all the tummy stuff, reverse sneezing & the minimal burp/belch bouts started in earnest, just about the time I began weaning him off Prednisolone after he had a good blood level of it.
