If your baby is ready for pickup, I think he/she is too old to have the procedure done. When puppies get their dew claws and tails done, it is done so in a small time frame where it causes them the least amount of distress and pain. To have it done now, is to pup your dog through a major procedure and amputate a part of the pup's body.

If it were me in your situation, I'd keep the puppy as is. The children can go to classes and practice with this puppy. If showing is that important, I'd get a second yorkie in the near future that conforms to the current standard.
