Default No tail docking

Hi,
I'm getting a beautiful yorkie from a very reputable breeder in my area next Friday. I've already visited the breeder and puppy and signed off on her.

I really do trust my breeder - he's terrific. I have a general question though. My puppy does not have her tail docked. I can have it done through my vet or his vet. He indicated that the AKC may be moving in the direction of not requiring docking the tails in the future.

I don't mind it at all. The tail is adorable! I have no intention on breeding - but my kids may get involved with Jr. Handling at some point.

Does anyone here have additional information about docking the tails & AKC standard? If there are any articles about, I'd love to read them.

I've also watched some international dog shows where the tails aren't docked. Is that the international standard?

I'm new at this so my terms may not be correct. I'm just curious and love to learn!

Thanks.
Tracey
