Default Collapsed Trachea

HI!! I'm new here...this is my first post, I've been a lurker for awhile now though

My boy is 9 months old. About a month ago, he started to cough a little bit when we walked. It was a dry, short cough. I wouldn't even say it was an "episode" Nothing bad, it didn't slow him down, he'd keep walking. Sometimes he'd cough up some clear phlegm or spit. Then I noticed he started to do it in my boyfriends house or when my boyfriend came over. Never in my house though.

I felt like it was going on too long so I took him to the vet. The vet asked if my boyfriend smoked. I said yes. He basically said that the smoking was an irritant and causing Coco to cough. I thought that was it. Then out of nowhere he started talking about collapsed trachea. He didn't diagnose him with it per se. No X-Ray was done or anything. The vet didn't seem concerned at all about it and gave him some cough suppressants.

Honestly I don't think its CT. It doesn't have that honking/wheezing sound. It also doesn't really occur as a coughing episode. He doesn't seem nervous or anything, he keeps playing. It a very dry, hacking kind of cough. To me it sounds more like kennel cough.
