That could work. But he is still young, and we had this problem with our 3-5 mth old large breed dog. He did not want to leave the house, if it was just hubby. If I took him no problem, happily trots down the driveway and off we go.

We never "solved" the problem per say, but he did grow out of it, when he was about a year old. It does get better, particularly if he is doing pretty well at the puppy classes.

You can try what SAlly said and see if that works better for you. Also just be aware they do enter another fearful stage at about 7 months old. You can talk to your trainer about this as the time approaches, they may have some suggestions for you then.
