She will not always want to get up in the middle of the night. This is a temporary thing and it will cause you to lose a lot of sleep but it's worth it. If you skimp on the housetraining now you will have a difficult time later!
Last night Loki woke up and looked around and I asked him if he needed to go outside and he curled up in a tighter ball and went back to sleep :-) It really does get better. The puppy stage is tough, but it's worth it!
Also, no playtime at night. Put her straight back in her crate. You can give her a treat for pottying and for going in the crate but then just walk away and go back to bed. They learn quickly that nighttime is not playtime!
Also, crate training does work. I know a lot of people on here use the playpen/kitchen/bathroom/baby gate method and that's great for them, but IMO the fastest path to housetraining is crate training. You have to set your dog up for success and minimize accidents. HOWEVER, the last thing you want is for your dog to get used to soiling it's crate. It's cruel to leave them in there longer than they can hold it, so if you're not willing to do that then it is necessary to use another method. Decide what is best for you. Good luck. |
