Both of mine are 3 x a day but they are on easily digested diet so thats why. Before the diet, 2x a day.
Id think they are like us, sometimes we just get off. Stress, excitement all that good stuff had a direct impact. If the poo looks healthy, Id think they are fine. Vet visits never hurt but be sure to take a poo sample with ya!
