Maybe she was trying to really say he was too anxious in her opinion to be there without you & so stressed he would take a risky chance of injury trying to get to you once you returned. Did she say anything about him panting or salivating a lot, shaking or pacing, stressing or mention he seemed "too attached" to you? I've heard people use that phrase in the past more than once as a euphemism for telling someone their dog was nervous or stressing without them. If that's not what she meant, what else could she mean? IDK.
