The best way to insure that this doesn't happen again is to get all the mats out before you take to the groomer. Taking mats out can take hours and a groomer shouldn't be expected to do this. Also, after brushing you can comb next to their skin to insure no tangles are left in, which can lead to mats. Joey had problems under his arms, especially after wearing clothing and I always used a little extra conditioner there. Cowboy Magic is another great product for removing tangles mats and stickers. The good news is he’ll have what looks like a “puppy cut” in a couple of months, and you don’t have to worry about the tangles and mats for a while. His adult hair should be easier to care for, but if he's a cotton coated Yorkie, it might be easier to keep him cut short. |

Amen!! all so very true!! While it is a shock to see him like that when you were NOT expecting it, they got rid of all that "puppy down" that soooooooo easily mats and tangles, right down to the skin....his coat will grow out so much easier to care for...unless you have a cotton coated Yorkie, and that is going to be a challenge to keep matt free....I agree with nancy there too...a short puppy cut is a blessing for those dogs!
