I agree with you that the Texas Toothpick and the table scraps put him over the edge. Little dogs can't tolerate the things that large dogs do. It only takes a couple of table scraps to throw their levels way off.
My parents had a little Sheltie that ate some chicken skin and got a bad case of Pancreatitis. It took him a few weeks to recover but he went back to a normal diet once he was totally better.
These little ones can get into trouble so easily.
