I had to do this after I noticed a rehomed to me dog was completely confused by the leash and walking with one so he'd just lay down if he was leashed and refused to walk.
I work with fosters and this is good advice. Often we get dogs who have never been on a leash and who are afraid of any fast moves or noise. Getting dogs to walk together is an excellent bonding tool.
