This is our pre bath ritual...
I put a towel on the kitchen table and place the pup on it. I use mink oil and lightly work it through all the hair. I massage the skin and try really hard to make it pleasant. I try to make this a relaxing good experience...but yes, sometimes there are mats that get in the way. I put a lot of mink oil on the mat and soften it up. I use the pointy end if a metal rat tail comb to work on the mat slowly and just a little at a time. If it is a really tough mat I will cut it out...not worth stressing them out too much. I don't have a wood pin brush, but I want to try one! I currently use the Madan brushes and combs from Topline Pet (member here that offers a YT discount.)

Good luck. I haven't always done this pre oil treatment. Bath and brushing used to make them stressed. They are so much more relaxed now than they used to be.
