Okay along your route most Motel 6 and Super 8 allow dogs in room. Some do charge a pet fee.

I'm not sure how big your dog is, but if a purse carrier is an option for the dog, then I've found it is really useful. Also the crate for car travel, and if you need to crate in the room.

I always travel with an emergency kit. I just clip kit to the crate in the car. A record of their health and vet contact and emergency contact is also clipped to crate in car.
