If you don't want to jog with her you could try what I did to get Harley to do a "heel" infront of me. I would walk with him and if the lead tightens I stop. as soon as the lead loosens (ie he comes back to me) I start walking again, and "click" or say good, the reward is the ability to move forward again. You wont get very far the first week in walks, but now he only pulls when he's really excited, and even then he'll usually return back to position really quickly I usually only have to stop once a walk. How close of a heel you want will determine how close to you they should come before you start walking again. With Harley I only want a loose leash, he doesn't need to be by my side, so as soon as the tension leaves I start walking, if you wanted a real heel you'd wait for them to come all the way to you. |
I am more comfortable with Bella out in front when I walk. She does really well staying to the left of me so I don't step on her. If she was behind me I would be afraid of getting her with my heel. If she's beside me, the normal heeling placement, I'm afraid if I accidentally side step I'll step on her and hurt her. She is deffinately a puller and I'm afraid that her pulling will eventually catch up with her and cause damage to her throat. I did check out the buddy belts. Woo...they are pricey, but I might check in on one.
