I grew up with two shih-tzus as a kid after our lab mix passed away. I fell in love with the size and the fact that they are non shedding. I knew I wanted a small dog that would travel well and I looked into the maltese and yorkie. The deciding factor was that I thought I would have a hard time with the tear staining that the maltese can have, so I decided on a yorkie. Now that I think of it... my decision was pretty superficial, but I don't think I could have chosen a better breed
I love their spunky and energetic nature but also that they are able to go everywhere and I am not constantly cleaning up their hair.
I don't think I'll ever own another breed.
