The only way an infant could get Samonella from dog food is if the parents didn't wash their hands after feeding the dog. Granted, if it wasn't there to begin with, it wouldn't have happened.

Many kids seem to be getting infected too. Whatever happened to the rule that kids under six years old shouldn't have a pet (specifically not be involved in the care of the pet)? Six year olds are found to be responsible enough to remember to wash their hands, but still should be supervised by a parent.
