The first pic is Peek a Boo at 5 years old, the first year I got him and began to let his coat grow out. Pay special attention to the ears, lol.
The 2nd pic is Peek at 10 years old, in full coat. I trim the top half, sometimes just the top third of ear ear, front and back, and let the rest grow and blend in with the hair on his neck, minimizing the actual size of his ears. In this pic I also left a longer tip on the ears. I read about doing this in one of my Yorkie books, it's supposed to give a more natural look and mimics some animals in the wild...lol.
