An average to take a puppy away from it's mom is about 12 weeks old.
IMO the longer with their mom the better.
On the other hand some say keeping a puppy with its mother past 8 weeks risks poor adaption to the human world.

Thank you for the information. I had been planning on getting him at 12 weeks, but after advice from family who had grew up with dogs, I was advised to get him at 8 weeks. I'm glad I did. I doubt I could have waited any longer for that bundle of joy.

I'll have to read up on the taping of ears.
