Overbites are herediatary. You can have two perfectly good parents that have excellent scissor bites produce a pup with an overbite/underbite. By the time the pup is 6 weeks, you will be able to determine if a pup has this defect. There is nothing you can do to correct the bite in a growing pup.

In the overbite that I've seen, dog had close to a 1 inch difference between the upper and lower jaw. Did not effect the dog in eating or anything like that but it is one trait that you don't want to breed back.
