Muffy & Missy's TRAINING They both are doing quite well with the trainer. Muffie does everything without an effort.
Missy is still having trouble with "heel" while walking on the leash. She's too nosy and skittish - she's afraid of garage doors opening, cars going by, big dogs barking inside their house, you name it! It'll just take time. Everything else she's doing what the trainer has taught her.
I still have her tethered to me all day long. We just now put a "bell" hanging from the gate just a couple feet from her. Maybe (our hopes) she'll ring it to go out. We originally had them hanging from the patio door when she was "free" in the kitchen but she was having too many accidents (and I thought we were really watching her)! The bells were working but she was really ringing them excessively and my husband got really irritated as he was "being interrupted" too many times!*!*!*! Oh me! What a shame, huh?
In addition, we are still trying to get her to "speak" to go out but are still having trouble with that. For now to get her to do this (PER MANY SUGGESTIONS IN TRAINING GUIDES - THIS ONE WAS THE LAST OPTION TO TRY): We tie her to the gate in the doorway of the kitchen and put her food/water bowls about 6-8" in front of her. She starts tugging and pulling on the leash - eventually she does speak and then we get excited and we tell her "Good Speak - Good Speak"! I know it sounds cruel but we tried all the other things they write about for teaching them to "speak" and none of them worked on her. She doesn't even bark when the doorbell rings!!! I hope this works. |
