I know a lot of us got our puppies at 8 weeks and had no problems at all.

I think the things you need to consider before you take an 8-week old home are -- it's size and is it a good little eater. If the puppy isn't a "tiny" little thing and has a good appetite, it will probably do very well. Otherwise, it should stay a little longer with its mother.
