My dd had a similar issue with her little girl biewer. Per our vet's advice and supervision, we did a several day trial and measured how much water she drank free choice. (Very difficult to do with two other dogs in the house) Took several days to get three good data points. Then he gave us a syringe and told us how many cc's of water to give her a day about 5 x day. If you only have the one dog this won't be too hard. Can't remember exactly how long this went on maybe a couple of months. Every time I said, let's go back to free choice, she started peeing everywhere again. Eventually, we were able to stop the measuring. Also, we had been training her outside only same as our other dogs. When we put a pee pad down in her day-pen, she taught herself to pee on it. She really prefers the pads but now will go inside or out. At seven months now, I would call her fairly well housetrained!! (She still likes to poop on the back door mat). Yeah!
Please don't get too discouraged and keep trying. She will catch on. |
