OMGosh! I gotta see this! Just do it with the larger size... we'll understand!
Thought about this a bit.... to make the wings a bit stiffer but still soft... what about puff quilting (Term?) them?

The above is made differently but will look similar. Sew channels through the butterfly, then make little slits in the spaces and fill them with bits of fiberfill to make them puffy. Then stitch or fabric glue the slits together.
