I have pet insurance and would definitely be broke without it. The issue with yours would be the fact that there is a pre-existing condition.

I made some fatal changes to my insurance and if someone was getting a new dog with no pre-existing conditions here is my advice:

Get the best insurance you can afford when the pup is little and healthy. You can always down-grade. Keep a low deductible, again if you change it you can't go back. I'm kicking myself for doing that. Also do your research!

Harley is only 2.5 and I'm my insurance companies worst client, I claim EVERYTHING. Harley had some major issues last summer and through the winter and I've used up my GI coverage, almost all my allergy coverage, plenty of medication coverage, massage and therapy, dental, and also one accident. I would never have been able to make it through Harley's allergies, LP and IBD without it. I'd be lost without it.

If you're considering it see if you can find a company that will forgive a pre-existing condition if you don't make a claim on it for two years, if her LP isn't bugging her now you may be able to get the insurance and claim on it later in her life if it gets worse.
