All it takes is one microscopic opening and one microscopic bacteria to find that opening and your baby could get a nasty, life threatening infection. Definitely wait the 14 days. If there are stitches to be removed, then I'd wait an additional day or two after they come out to allow the tiny suture holes to completely close, as well.
