Hi!

It concerns me that you say he started panting as soon as you left the house If it were the heat and/or humidity bothering him, I would think it would take at least a few minutes of walking for him to start panting like that. He could just be overly sensitive to the heat, but a vet check would be the first thing I'd do for sure.
