Actually, AKC DOES indeed recognize and register other colors of Yorkies. Yorkie puppies that are standard in coloring are born black and tan/brown with occasional patches of white. But, a parti marked or tri-color is born with those colors that they show as adults.
The parti-marked and tris are harder to find and are more expensive but if the parents are registered with AKC you can register the puppy by sending pics and application. The application goes to a committee for consideration and they take it from there...
