Your parents are right. Daisy has free reign of my home. I leave the TV on, patio door blinds open so she can see out. I also throw down a treat as I leave so that my leaving is a positive event. Dogs sleep most of the day. When I'm home I make sure I walk her and play with her. Also, I get up early enough in the mornings to take her for a 20 minute walk and also play with her a few minutes. When I'm home in the evenings, I take her on a 30 minute walk and play some more. I just make sure she experiences her favorite things everyday. If she gets to do that before you leave for work, she will be in "rest mode". You don't need to feel guilty.
