At 8 weeks old, your little puppy is like a newborn infant. He is not going to housetrain right away - so don't have those expectations.

Is his crate in your room? If not, place it there with lots of comfy blankets, something safe for him to chew on, and a soothing stuffed toy.

Lucy slept in bed with me from day one; but I understand not everyone would like that.

I agree with not changing his food; there will be time for that later if you feel it's absolutely necessary. I made the mistake of changing Lucy's food too early and we had quite a time with her illnesses.
