I use a harness. I recommend harnesses because they are better for their necks. You can still teach them against pulling and running the marathon. I am going through that with Khloe right now. I do plan to get a retracable leash when she gets older. I use that with Kirby my older dog. The retracable gives them a more freedom but yet you can reel them in when needed. Just think if they are pulling and jerking this could really hurt their necks if you are using a collar. I use the collar for id and rabies tags only. More people are using harnesses even with large breed dogs. Its really pet friendlier.
