Thankfully the last few years of his life were flea free. Noah lived to be 18. We had a special area on the sun porch with pee pads for him. We never let him in the grass on walks. We stripped our home of carpet, drapes (we went to short valances and blinds) we replaced old beds and throw rugs. We had the house and yard professionally treated for fleas and other bugs. I made all the dogs new beds (the pillows for their crates and the ones they lay around on) I made them with zippers and stuffed them with cedar chips. Which you can buy in giant bags at Walmart. I also made washable covers. The cover gets changed every week and I replace the chips every 3 months. We also changed to a flea, worm and heartworm preventive called Trifexis. I have not seen one flea in 3 years. This is amazing to me, because we still live in the same sandy flea happy breeding area !
Well, thank you for all that, I will have to do all those things too We already got rid of the carpet years ago (thank goodness!) and have all washable curtains over our blinds, which I may get rid of now. I do have a sewing machine, and think I will start making them new cedar beds and get rid of all the old ones. I always wondered if the flea eggs could penetrate into the foam stuff. Can't really wash that, but I do spray it with flea spray every time I wash the covers. I even wash all their stuffed toys with the bedding, and all furniture gets sprayed on all sides and the underside as well. I'll ask about the Trifexis when we go back for their vaccines in two weeks. He wanted them to take Comfortis, but they took that last year and still ended up with fleas It just seems that it takes about 2 months to finally kill off all the fleas/eggs/larvae, and then we're good for the year. This year and last year were the only times we've had fleas, every year before that we never had a problem SO frustrating, because I know I was doing everything possible to eradicate those little nasties, and my poor kiddos were still itching so badly Hopefully everyone will sleep well tonight, they are snoozing comfortably right now with no itchies
