Default Rescued yorkie won't stay alone at night

Hello,

Yesterday I adopted the cutest little Yorkie from a shelter.
He seems to be doing great and adapting to my family really well but at night he won't be alone.

When we went to sleep we put him on the couch all confy, went to the room and shut the door. He started scratching the door and wouldn't stop.
My boyfriend told me I wait a fee minutes saying that he would stop eventually.
He didn't. I felt so sorry for him. Brought him to the room and put him sleeping next to the bed on a chair with a blanket.
I woke up today with him sleeping on my pillow next to my head.

He's around four years old. Came from a home that had another 60 yorkies. No wonder they had to get rid of them.

How can I make my new baby to feel at home and safe at night?

Thanks
