I started out with a Brother embroidery only but returned it and got my Janome 300e. I like the hoop size better and it seems more user friendly- speaking for myself only.
If you have a sewing machine dealer nearby go and ask for demos,use several different machines yourself and don't forget the used machines. I always head over to the used wall when I go into my fave store, the machines are reconditioned,come with a warranty and are way cheaper than their new counterparts. One of my flights of fancy is to walk down the line and try to imagine what was made on each one!
