My cousins Maltese is also a jumper. (About 3 years old too) After his neuter he was quite calm. I think they know (for the most part) that to jump = a little pain. After he mostly healed he was back to his ole jumping self. He was so pitiful looking too after the surgery.
I'm glad Laddy pulled through it fine.
