You will need to weigh, the risks and benefits. On the bright side you are having your boy neutered today, so that when*if( she goes into her first heat, you won't have to be exceedingly cautious at home with your boy.
And just a further note; there is no need to guess if your gal's growth plates have closed, just have vet take a lateral view of the tibia. That is the last growth plate to close.
I think for myself, I would allow one heat to happen, and then spay after growth plate closure. At least too, any retained baby teeth can be removed. Also pretty soon, you should think about having a BATS test done on your gal.
