I believe the question is more "is it appropriate for this dog in this case?" rather than "do they work?" I have one, which has been turned off for many years now, but I wouldn't dream of using it with my Yorkies. It was used temporarily for a 120+lb Shep/Lab. It wasn't as much the 'fence' working...it was the 'training' I gave the dog...the fence backed up the training and in the case of that dog, he never again went within 10-20 feet of the fence barrier...never again heard the dreaded beep. lol We tested thoroughly holding the collar ourselves before ever allowing him to wear it and after he was trained about the yard boundary, he was good as gold...but he also never wanted to leave either. He was a rescue someone else performed and we 'helped them out temporarily' which means he lived with us for another 12 or so years after. lol Since we live on a busy road and had not even begun to put up any fencing...and suddenly had this 'temporary' dog, we needed a remedy for a dog who did not 'fear' the road, having sort of lived safely in it for at least 2 or more years.
There is no reason I can think of to put a Yorkie in a wireless barrier fence...and many, many reasons I can think of NOT to use one with a Yorkie. Please consider the situation you are trying to solve carefully...there may be a better, safer way for your Yorkie than a wireless fence. |
