Yorkies home alone Have enjoyed all the posts and advice shared on this forum. I'm learning a lot!! We are planning to adopt a rescue dog (2-4 yr. old female) - either Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso, or Yorkie. I just keep going back to the yorkie because they are so darn cute and fun!! Both of us work full-time, so the dog would be alone mon-fri 8a-4:30p -- in a gated off breakfast room (tile floor) about 10' x 12', with french doors looking into backyard, crate, puppy pads, food/water, lots of toys, and radio playing. We would of course give the dog LOTS of love, attention, walks, and play in the evenings and weekends. I've read other posts on here, that Yorkies in general can do OK if left home alone -- I do know the ideal would be for a dog to be around his owners all day, but we can't be the only people who want to have a small dog, but must work outside the home.
I'd love to hear from any who successfully make this work -- and if you encountered issues with the dog (again, an adult dog) chewing up woodwork/trim or becoming anti-social from being alone. (note that getting two dogs is not an option at this time, but down the road would like to have two dogs). thanks for your advice!! |
