I had this happen to me after some surgery. The doctor told me on the phone to gently pull on it, and if it slipped out easily to go ahead and pull it out. If it was resistant in any way at all, I was to come in for it to be removed. Just be sure to watch the area for redness or swelling, which could mean infection setting in.
