Welcome to YT. My Mylee never did accept a kennel. She is the only dog I've ever had that wouldn't. She did exactly what you describe and stressed herself to the point of it being harmful to her. Since we also had another dog, Moka, who was able to be loose while we were away, we just let Mylee stay out with her. Mylee still has terrible separation anxiety especially when she knows we are beginning to leave, but I know she gets comfort from Moka while we are away. If we didn't have Moka we would have real issues with Mylee even today. We closed off a major portion of our house leaving them basically the livingroom and kitchen while we were away. We were still able to pad train her and house break her with no real issues doing this.
