We have been looking at buying a larger crossover an after trying out a few options, we really like the Buick Enclave. We are in no position to buy new, but we found a used 2008 model a few hours away from us with all the options we would like. We have been corresponding with the dealership by email before we take the time to drive out and see it in person.

I have done some research on Enclaves and have found some pretty alarming issues. My fiance's dad works with car parts and he said he has seen many Enclaves with timing belt issues. Online, I have seen many people have power steering issues as well. Both are lots of money and headache to fix. On the other hand, my fiance's aunt and uncle own a 2009 Enclave and they rave about it and have never had any issues at all!

Anyways, the dealership said it is a lease buy-back from their own dealership. The person who owned it previously was the local pharmacist. When they got it back, they did a multi point inspection and felt they needed to do the following work: "Front struts were installed, lower ball joints replaced ,front brake pads replaced , 4 wheel alignment and balance. Transmission cooler lines were sweating so they were replaced and the power steering pressure hose was also replaced. All of these items amounted to $1,900.00 but this will eliminate a prospective customer having to do these repairs in the near future."

This vehicle only has 77,000 kms which is 47,845 miles.

Should we just let it go? Is this "normal" work? I know a few things are, but I'm not sure why the ball joints, front struts, transmission cooler lines, and power steering pressure hose would need to be replaced already. It seems like an awful lot to me, and it might be foreshadowing a money pit in the future if we buy it. I just really really love it so I'm torn! Are there any car people here who might know a little more about this than I do??
