I'm sorry but you'll need to find a better vet. His stool needs to be checked under a microscope as many pups go to new homes with stuff like Giardia and such, and diarrhea can dehydrate them quickly. If you see changes in his behavior, like lethagy/ not eating.... I would take him to an emergency vet asap.

Canned plain pumpkin (1 teaspoon) may stop the diarrhea temporarily, but he still should see a good vet, to be sure he's not harbouring any microorganisms. Often pups with digestive problems are fed a 50/50 mix of chicken and white rice... a bland diet helps the digestive tract to heal.
