The newly-opened New Cooper River Bridge in Charleston, SC, has a span of 1,546 feet (464 meters) and a rise of 186 feet (56 meters) above the water. It currently holds the record for being the longest cable-stayed span in North America! (
Here's an arial view of the bridge.)
Yesterday (January 21, 2006) we had 75° weather....so we figured it was a great day to walk across the bridge! It has a really neat walking/biking lane and it's a popular way for Charlestonians (and visitors) to exercise!
Anyway, here are a few photos I took while walking the bridge yesterday! This 4th one is my FAVORITE!
