I trim them also, I use a small pair of scissors (think from a manicure set).

I do not do my own grooming but I cut around Sophie Kates eyes between groomings. I was never sure what type of scissors to get, I think I need to get some with a blunt tip.

One suggestion I would make is I wet the hair before cutting, it makes it easier for cut that specific area (might not be a good suggestion so we might want to watch for feedback from people who know grooming).
