The vets pick the prescription diets for urinary conditions based upon what the symptoms are....and type of stones. I have two pups who are on Urinary SO and they both are doing very well on it. One had two episodes of stones in the past....he has been fine now for almost three years on this food!
I give him the canned food and add water to it.
Sometimes it takes a bit of patience to get them to change their eating habits. Just put it down and if they don't eat, don't give in and substitute the food with another food. Then, a bit later, present the food again.
The RX diets save lives! The only other alternative I could suggest is home cooking, but only under the guidance of a board certified vet nutritionist.
